R.E.A.L. Money Curriculum

R.E.A.L. Money is an asset building and financial education curriculum and series. Asset building & financial literacy curriculum gives youth a sense of responsibility, understanding of money management, hope and actionable steps to remove themselves from poverty. Poverty is a societal problem that drives other issues and obstacles that many youth face in the urban environment. Poverty is a leading cause for violence, youth crime and incarceration. Poverty is also a mentality. Our approach seeks to address the need for a shift in the culture and thinking toward a solution for poverty.

R.E.A.L. Money for Youth

In Development: The Good Life, in partnership with Primerica (Syracuse) is developing a financial literacy curriculum (by Summer 2015), targeted for urban youth. By infusing cultural elements and Hip-Hop elements into the curriculum, our hope is to reach youth in a more direct, motivating and familial way. The use of youth culture to convey certain financial themes bridges youth personal experiences and the concepts needed for them to gain understanding of money management, making them self-sufficient and self-sustainable.

The GLYF “R.E.A.L. MONEY” for young adults curriculum helps youth ages 13-24 learn the basics of handling their money and finances, including how to engage and view money in a different way.

R.E.A.L. MONEY” for young adults curriculum consists of five instructor-led modules. Each module includes a fully scripted instructor guide, participant guide, and resource guide for additional resources for learning. The curriculum is distributed in print with an additional CD:  Pre-order Coming Soon.

R.E.A.L. MONEY” for Young Adults curriculum is:

  • Aligned with educational standards for all 50 states, the District of Columbia
  • Offers a completely customizable curriculum comprised of modules that can be taught on a stand-alone basis;

GLYF is available to provide technical assistance, training and to help facilitate partnerships among interested parties.

Modules are approximately 120 minutes if taught in their. However, content is layered so that it can be taught in two (or more parts). To help an instructor tailor the modules to the needs of the audience, the front of each module includes a matrix or Layering Table to delineate the module’s components. The matrix will assist an instructor in presenting material responsive to the needs of your target audience within the available time frame.
