Money Asset Building & Financial Literacy 6 Module series that introduces concepts of financial management, with a particular focus on the urban cultures and the misconceptions within those cultures, that perpetuate poverty. Each module will take place in alternate months throughout the year to coincide with the Entrepreneurship workshops.  Good Life Foundation is reaching out to encourage parents and kids to start thinking about the future and most importantly their wallets, now, versus later.

Why: Fiscal responsibility should be taught at a young age because time is the most important factor in securing a strong financial future. Poverty is a mentality that has to be challenged before anyone can gain financial freedom. According to the Pew Research Center, white households’ median wealth ticked up to $141,900 in 2013, up 2.4% from three years earlier, while the net worth for black households dropped by a third during that time to $11,000. Hispanic families experienced a 14% decline in wealth to $13,700. Financial literacy is not always included in high school or college curriculums.  Lack of finances is often a leading reason for youth who commit crimes such as robbery or sale of illegal narcotics.
