JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Position: Director of Youth Engagement

The Director of Youth Engagement is responsible for overseeing the overall program, staff and implementation of the program. A key responsibility is identifying individuals who would make good Life influencers/mentors. The Director will participate in interviews for  potential candidates for life coaching. The Director will facilitate the pairing of youth with life influencers and provide necessary guidance concerning proper care for youth. DYE may even provide life influencers with a list of goals that should be accomplished with youth. They will manage and facilitate the individualized youth plans.

The DYE will monitor and evaluate life influencer/youth relationships through verbal communications, face-to-face meetings, team meetings and over-the-phone conversations. Indirect communications may include reviewing progress reports written by life influencers. DYE will also evaluate each life influencer/youth relationship pair to determine if any changes need to be made, such as reassigning youth. The evaluation process may include writings reports to administration about the success rates and failures of the current program, and documenting hours of life influencers.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage team of Life Coaches
  • Conduct individual outreach, relationship development, and follow up with families of youth
  • Advocate for and support staff as they interact with justice systems, education, employment, health and social service systems
  • Facilitate staff meetings to ensure proper implementation of program
  • Complete peacemaker training
  • Participate, when needed, in peacemaking circles to aid in the restoration of family relationships

 

Qualifications:

  • A full year commitment at minimum
  • Determination to demonstrate consistent care and support for young adults
  • Team player who can support fellow Mentors and facilitate guidance and instruction to mentors.
  • Consistency in attendance and punctuality to group meetings
  • Commitment to the local target community
  • Passion to see life transformation in young adults
  • Patience and understanding that this transformative process takes time
  • Superior ability to connect with, inspire, motivate, and engage system-involved youth and staff
  • Ability to navigate relationships with juvenile justice stakeholders, grassroots faith and neighborhood organizations, and social service providers
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven and self-directed
  • Ability to meet deadlines and oversee necessary data collection to develop metrics

Position Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Compensation: $35,000-$40,000 a year commensurate with experience, partial benefits package

Position: Life Influencer

The Life Influencer Mentor is responsible for developing transformative mentoring relationships with youth in the justice system. Life Influencer mentoring for youth in the juvenile justice system is a transformative process through which individuals from similar backgrounds, especially men of color who may have been justice-involved, engage youth in structured and intentional relationships that help them change their attitudes, beliefs and actions. A Life Influencer often shares the same ethnic and racial background as the youth they mentor, has grown up and/or lives in the same neighborhood as the youth, and has overcome challenging life experiences including, incarceration, gang-involvement, and criminal lifestyle and now models from the inside out a lifestyle of sustained transformation. Life Influencer Mentors will also participate in  group mentoring sessions and workshops (R.E.A.L. Money, R.E.A.L. Business) with young people and also engage in individual relationship development and support with life planning, including education, career, community service and engagement with social and health services.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor youth referred by the  justice system
  • Conduct individual outreach, relationship development, and follow up with youth
  • Model a lifestyle of sustained transformation
  • Advocate for and support youth as they interact with justice systems, education, employment, health and social service systems
  • Participate and bring youth to  workshops and seminars
  • Facilitate positive youth development, restorative justice, and cognitive-behavioral group sessions for youth
  • Complete peacemaker training
  • Participate, when needed, in peacemaking circles to aid in the restoration of family relationships

 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to model a sustained lifestyle of personal transformation marked by integrity, maturity, wisdom, and consistency
  • Superior ability to connect with, inspire, motivate, and engage system-involved youth
  • Ability to listen and facilitate
  • Ability to navigate relationships with juvenile justice stakeholders, grassroots faith and neighborhood organizations, and social service providers
  • Ability to speak (or learn) Spanish  desirable
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven and self-directed
  • Ability to meet deadlines and engage in necessary data collection to develop metrics
  • Reliable transportation

 

Position Type: part-time, 20 hours per week. Must regularly be available evenings and weekends.
