Our Approach

WHO DO WE REACH ?

THE GOOD LIFE reaches “at-risk” youth between the ages of 13-24. Some of our kids are either incarcerated or have once been in the Juvenile Justice System and are simply looking for a fresh start. Some of the other children in our programs could just as easily end up in the Juvenile Justice System.

We aid in life coaching and relationship building throughout the process of facilitating their re-entry into society. The other populations we target are the kids that have yet to be solidified into the Justice System, but could potentially head down that path. Our goal is to interrupt the cycle of poverty and incarceration while simultaneously lowering recidivism rates.

CONNECTING DREAMS TO REALITY: LET THE YOUTH DREAM

THE GOOD LIFE meets the youth halfway. We ENCOURAGE them to DREAM and EMPOWER them to turn their dreams into a REALITY. We do not paint their dreams for them; we only challenge them to achieve it.

If we are “telling”, we are not “listening”. Good Life Foundation is about creating connections with the youth for their success and future. We foster partnerships with youth to create a collaborative effort toward success. Instead of just giving orders, we ask the youth what they think they need in order to be successful. Success is something that is measured by the individual. If the youth are not invested in their personal YOUTH DRIVEN plan, chances are they will end up stuck in somebody else’s plan.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE: COLLABORATION NOT COMPETITION

THE GOOD LIFE is without-a-doubt a collaborative organization. We work with various partners to ensure that the appropriate and necessary “wrap around” services are utilized as a support for our youth. We work collaboratively with our agencies in Onondaga County to ensure success in improving the quality of lives for our area’s children while simultaneously strengthening families. After all, no one agency can solve the whole problem by their selves.

THE MOVEMENT: BACK TO THE ELEMENTS

THE GOOD LIFE utilizes the core elements of Hip-Hop Culture and Youth Culture: DJ, Emcee, Breakin’, Expressional Art and the traditional values of early Hip-Hop to help shape the minds of our youth. Through the expression and emphasis of these core values, we hope to not only connect with youth by accessing the predominantly celebrated culture, but also to set an example of values and principles which will lead them in a positive direction. By tapping into the entrepreneurial spirit of Hip-Hop, we hope to encourage the growth of business and entrepreneurial skills in our youth. Our goal is to create a larger youth driven movement to “attack the cool” and redefine what cool really is while ultimately change youth culture towards a desire for success.
